Description:
This Remington rifle was produced in 1916 for the French Military during World War One. These Rifles by Remington were not serial numbered. This Berthier rifle shoots the standard 8 m/m Lebel service round. This rifle is a three shot gun. The magazine uses a three shot clip that is inserted like an American M1 Garand rifle. You need to have these clips to make the rifle feed the shells. I was not able to locate these three round clips. I did find two five round clips that will work just fine. The clip will protrude from the bottom of the magazine well. You just have to load three shells to make the magazine feed the shells. See my photos. This rifle is in very fine original condition. The bore is in minty condition with a bright bore. The original bluing would rate a 97% condition. The bolt is in the white. The bolt face shows no sign of this rifle being fired. The stock is in new condition. there is no damage or other issues with this stock. The original wood finish is intact on this stock. The original leather sling is supple and fully serviceable. Very few of these rifles were shipped to France. Most of these rifles were taken by the American Military and issued to the The Harlem Hell Fighters Negro Troops that served as auxiliary troops in the French Army as well as training rifles for the American troops state side until they were able to issue American rifles. We were very short of military service rifles until we were able to get our production up to speed. These French rifles were a good stop gap for training purposes until we were able to issue our own rifles. This is a very collectable rifle for the World War One Collector. This rifle by Remington Arms Co. has a lot of history behind this American made French Berthier rifle! The French Ammunition And Clips Are For Sale as an Extra Purchase.
