About Us: I am an individual, and have bought & sold guns on for over 15 years. I have a C&R license and like to collect Mauser sporting rifles.

Description:
This rifle is stamped “Waffenfabrik Danzig” so that tells us it was manufactured in the Danzig Arsenal.  Danzig and Erfurt Arsenals produced these small ringed Mauser sporting rifles for two or three years, after WWI. Many of the Danzig rifles were produced for export, perhaps more than fifty percent. The two arsenals were already tooled, and had the parts (actually Erfurt made most of the parts, and shipped them up to Danzig for assembly) for these rifles so setting up production was not that difficult.  The labor was skilled in the production of military rifles, and had to have had a great work ethic, because of high unemployment, so they had an incentive to produce a high-quality rifle.
The caliber of this rifle is 8 x 57, serial number 3974, and comes with what appears to be a case-hardened bolt.  This rifle is in excellent condition, no scratches, dents or dings.  The metal must have been re-blued, but I see no evidence of heavy (or even light) buffing, for that matter.  I’m pretty sure the stock has been refinished, but must have been done by a real craftsman, because the checkering is prominent and sharp for its age.  This rifle did not undergo proofing procedures at a commercial proof house because it was manufactured in an arsenal.  Instead, the forward receiver ring, right in front of the serial number, is stamped with a Prussian Eagle, indicating it was proofed in the arsenal.
The scope is interesting.  It is a Dr. Walter Gerard scope, who manufactured scopes from 1905 until 1928 in Charlottenburg, Germany.  The letter “C” on the scope indicates it is 4.5 power, and “DRGM” stands for Deutsches Reichs-Gebrauchs-Muster, or German Reichs Registered Design.  The scope has a turret style elevation adjuster with a serial number (40230) stamped into its base.  This rifle is missing the front sling swivel!

The action, which has a set trigger, functions well.  The word “Germany” is stamped on the stock, indicating it was made for export.  The appearance and condition of this rifle make it a real “head-turner”.
Price reduction, was $1,450.  To ship this gun I must have a signed copy of your C&R license or same with FFL.
