Description:
"Serial no. 3770. Manufactured in 1888 at Spandau Arsenal, chambered in 11mm,31 ½"" round barrel. The bore is bright and shiny with strong, well-defined rifling noted throughout. Serial numbers are matching throughout, including the screws, an excellent indicator of originality and care. The barrel finish is thinning to a brown/grey patina with scattered surface oxidation consistent with age. The stock shows light handling and impression marks while remaining in very good condition. The buttplate is unit marked “G.R.S./2.195.," indicating issue to a Garde-Reserve-Schützen (Guard Reserve Rifle) unit, 2nd Company, weapon number 195—an elite light infantry formation within the Prussian Guard structure, adding notable historical and collector appeal. The Model 71/84 represents Germany’s first repeating service rifle, bridging the transition from single-shot black powder arms to magazine-fed systems. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
