DESIREABLE “Begley” Inspected WWII U.S. COLT M1911A1 C&R w/U.S. RIA HOLSTER

World War 2 JOHN S. BEGLEY “JSB” Marked Govt Model

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Colt Model of 1911A1 U.S. Army Pistol, made in 1945 in Hartford, Connecticuy. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status throughout both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and beyond. This one was made just before the start of The Great War. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status almost immediately.

The Colt model M1911 series of pistols is one of the most successful small arms designs of the 20th century, and in all of modern warfare history, for that matter. The handgun has been produced in quantity in the United States, Argentina, and Norway (the latter two under license production as the M1914 and the M1927 respectively) and was fielded in both World Wars and many of the major and minor conflicts of the century, eventually becoming a commercial success for the Colt enterprise. The Colt M1911 continues service in many forms today and is still a favorite among sporting, security, and casual gun lovers all over the world.

This handgun features a 1945 production frame with a faint scarce “J.S.B.” (John S. Begley) inspector mark on the left, and “HS” (High Standard) barrel. Also included is a U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Holster that is dated “9-55”.

The overall condition is fine. Armory refurbished. Virtually complete Parkerized finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The grips show honest use and remain solid. The holster is marked “MRT” and has a date of “9-55” as well as “RIA” embossed with the US logo on the flap. The leather is in very good condition. Some of the metal fittings show corrosion.
