This revolver was upgraded during the period of use with the engraving, silver finish, and eagle & snake carved ivory grips, very much typical of guns toted around the Mexican border during this time period. This revolver comes with the archival letter which states that it was part of a shipment of 5 to the Chicago Sears, Roebuck & Co. in late 1905. The letter confirms the barrel length and chambering as well as indicates that the original finish was blue before the embellishments. This is a handsome piece with engraving that is unique to this piece. The Colt Bisley was introduced in 1894 and continued until 1912 as an accurate target pistol. The name Bisley came from the famous firing range in Bisley, England. The Colt Bisley can be distinguished by its more curvaceous grip frame, the wider hammer spur, and the wider trigger. Bisley revolvers were serial-numbered in the range of 156300–331916, in the same sequence as the other Single Action Army revolvers. A total number of 44,350 Bisley revolvers were manufactured. Most Bisley Standard Model revolvers shipped to a United States address were not used for target shooting, but for self-defense, because the grip and hammer were ideal for fast shooting. The overall condition is very good. Nicely silver plated. Sharp period engravings. The carved antique ivory grips remain solid. Excellent action with all 3 positions held firmly, all 4 clicks, and solid lockup. The bore is reflective with strong rifling. Numbers match. A very nice period treatment for this 7-1/2” barreled Colt Bisley! Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 7-1/2 inches.
