Description:
HERE IS A GREAT INTERARMS NORINCO ATD 22 TAKE DOWN RIFLE. BROWNING SA-22 CLONE

Interarms and Norinco (China North Industries Corporation) had a historical partnership where Interarms acted as a primary U.S. importer for various Chinese-manufactured firearms during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This relationship is most famous for the Norinco ATD 22, a popular semi-automatic .22 caliber takedown rifle.

Notable Interarms/Norinco Firearms
  • Norinco ATD 22 (Model 22 ATD)
: This is a highly regarded clone of the Browning SA-22 takedown rifle. It was manufactured by Norinco and imported to the U.S. by Interarms between roughly 1987 and 1999.
    • Features: It features a bottom-ejecting action and a tubular magazine housed in the buttstock.
    • Reputation: While generally considered a "decent" or "pretty good" copy for its price, it is often noted as having slightly lower fit and finish than the original Browning models.
  • Norinco Hunter
: A sporting rifle often based on the AK-47 action, sometimes imported or modified by Interarms (under labels like I.D.E.).
  • Bolt Action Rifles: Interarms also imported various Norinco .22LR bolt action sporting rifles in the early 1990s.

Import History and Bans
The partnership effectively ended due to a series of U.S. government bans on Chinese firearm imports:
  • 1989/1993 Bans: The 1989 assault weapons import ban and subsequent 1993 trade rules blocked most Norinco semi-automatic rifles and ammunition.
  • 2003 Sanctions: Final sanctions in 2003 prohibited the import of the remaining "sporting" types of firearms (like the
    ATD 22
) after allegations of Norinco selling missile-related goods to Iran.

Because of these bans, any Interarms Norinco firearm found today is from the secondary "used" market and is considered a collectible or "pre-ban" item
