Description: This Beautiful German / European single shot stalking rifle, chambered in .43 Mauser, has a novel underlever to open the action. It features nicely figured wood, an octagonal 25 5/8" long barrel with a gold inlaided band near the reciever, real horn behind the trigger guard, set trigger and an elegant light relief engraving on the receiver. Marked "L. Pitel. Cassel." on the barrel rib, we suspect that was the gunmaker and his city, for this fine rifle. Often thought incorrectly as "Guild Guns", these types of sporting rifles were usually assembled by local gunsmiths from commercially available parts after recieving an order from a customer. This one likely dates from 1870's to 1900, as best we can determine. Action is marked with the "EB" stamp from gun parts maker Emil Barthelmes. All parts are matched and show a "33" stamp. Rifle is in fine shape, with excellent finish, a shiny bore with great rifling and very little wear. The action opens and closes tightly. Shows light wear consistant with it's age and usage. Small nick in the horn behind the trigger. There are a few small nicks on the edge of the barrel rib toward the muzzle. Please Email with any question, for more pictures or to make an offer. We also have .43 Mauser /11 x 60mm brass, bullets and loading equipment available as well. Due to the age, we consider this rifle to be an Antique.
