The Winchester Model 1873 in .44-40 WCF is the quintessential \"Gun that Won the West.\" Introduced in 1873, it was the first centerfire rifle produced by Winchester, offering a significant upgrade in reliability and power over the previous rimfire models.
Winchester 1873 Carbine
A standard 1873 Carbine typically differs from the Sporting Rifle in these ways:

- The .44-40 was the original chambering for the 1873 and remains its most iconic. Its name stands for .44 caliber bullet propelled by 40 grains of black powder.
