This is an attractive and well-made pistol that has a tap-action pan allowing for sequential or volley firing of the top and bottom barrels. The brass barrels and box frame have been lightly cleaned to bright, with some yellow-ochre tarnish starting to mix in. A matching mottled bright gray patina is present on the centrally-hung hammer, frizzen, tap switch, and trigger guard. The left side of the frame has the maker’s name a rectangular banner: "J & W RICHARDS"; while the right side has, "LONDON" in an oval. The bag-shaped, uncheckered walnut grip is in very good shape, with scattered small handling marks and minor blemishes marring the thick oil finish throughout. The action itself is firm and functional, including the sliding safety and tap switch. Joseph and William Richards operated at 49 New St, Birmingham 1799 & 1817. This is a nice tap-action from a known British maker, and is in fine condition overall. Antique; Price: $1,195.00 Antique: Yes |
