Description:
This rare First Model 39-A rifle is in great shape for its age.  War-time guns were hunted for food during the hard times of war.  This gun has been used, but well cared for.  That alone tells you a story.  Wood is in fine shape, no cracks or splits.  Metal on the receiver shows expected thinning, but the barrels are in great shape.  It has deep cut Ballard rifling, a tang-mounted peep sight, and a square lever only used for a couple of years. It has a straight grip, both factory sights, and a front sight hood. This gun is solid and still has a century of life.

OVERVIEW

Based on the 6-digit serial number 169089 with no letter prefix, this Marlin Model 39A was manufactured in 1940 or very early 1941. It is considered a "First Model" post-1939 production, likely featuring a rounded lever and pistol grip stock, as pre-WWII models used numerical serials rather than letter prefixes.
Marlin Firearms Collectors Association +1
  • Production Era: Late 1930s to early 1940s (pre-WWII).
  • Key Features for 1940/41: Rounded lever (instead of 1939's square back), pistol grip stock, and case-colored receiver.
  • Identification: The number is typically found on the upper tang, covered by the stock, or on the lower tang under the lever.
For confirmation, check for a "B" prefix; if none exists and the number is 6 digits, it falls into the early 1940-1941 production bloc
