This is a very early 1903 Springfield (SN: 6334) indicating it was originally chambered in .30-03 and converted to .30-06. It was rebarreled in January 1919, it features a finger grooved stock and an M1907 sling is included.
Disclosure: \"Low-number\" Springfield 1903 rifles, with serial numbers below 800,000 (Springfield Armory) or 286,506 (Rock Island Arsenal), are considered potentially unsafe due to brittle receivers caused by inconsistent single-heat treatment before 1918. While over 1 million were made and few failed, these can shatter under standard ammunition, prompting the Army to consider them obsolete for safety reasons by 1927.
This rifle is remarkably rare and due to its nature we recommend not firing it and keeping it as a collector only!
