Slide is numbered to the frame "690" marked.
Very nice condition as are the very nice original black rubber grips.
Left side marked: Patented Apr 20, 1897 Dec 22, 1903 Colt's PT FA MFG Co Hartford CT USA
Colt archive historical letter included: Shipped Harper & Reynolds Co. LA CA July 5, 1917 one of five. No mention of the engraving in the Colt letter.
According to correspondence on the Colt Forum: this pistol was owned by a large gun store in Long Beach, California. Then the gun store was moved to Kingman, AZ. When the owner died, his son took over and this pistol was sold. I could not corroborate.
FYI If you are into serial numbers, aside from this listed Type lll 380 with the serial number 31690, I also own the rarer Type ll sn 3169 with the barrel bushing if your into these Model M 380 Colt automatic hammerless pistols and want to bundle.
