"Serial no. F02430. Manufactured in 1917 by Amberg Arsenal, chambered in 8mm,29 ½"" round barrel. The bore is bright with light frosting noted mid-bore while the rifling remains strong and well-defined. The barrel has aged to a brown/grey patina, while the receiver has been polished into the white. Serial numbers are non-matching. The rear sight has been updated to the K98k pattern, replacing the original Lange Visier, indicating later refurbishment and continued service into the Third Reich period. The stock is good, showing light handling impressions. This rifle represents a typical example of a WWI Gewehr 98 that was modernized for later use, reflecting Germany’s practice of updating earlier rifles for continued military service. The action is smooth, mechanically sound, and functions correctly.
