Description:
Antique Iver Johnson Champion .410 break-action single-shot shotgun with a 20" barrel and walnut stocks. The shotgun is marked on the left side of the receiver Iver Johnson Arms and Cycleworks Fitchburg Mass. USA, Champion. The barrel is marked .410 guage choke bore barrel and lug forged in one with patent dates. The serial number 37837 is marked on the lower tang. The shotguns features a hard black plastic buttplate moulded with the words Iver Johnson over an owl symbol.

The condition is okay overall. The shotgun is mechanically fine. The bore is clean and free of pitting or rust . The barrel, receiver and trigger guard have aquired an even brown patina. The front sight is a later replacement handmade from copper. The stocks contain minor period dings and nicks from use. A 4" crack has formed starting at the grip. It appears to be stable and mostly cosmetic.

The shotgun has been decorated with numerous adornments including a rawhide strap at the grip, brass tacks on the stock and the letters N.P.R.R. lightly engraved on the receiver. Additionally, a stamped copper plate has been tacked to the right hand side of the buttstock. The plate reads,"Mesabi Lumber Co. Payroll Guard." It is unknown when these items were added.

Manufactured 1909-1919.
