Very early first-year production Marlin Model 56 Levermatic .22 LR rifle, serial number M 2906.
This is a documented early 1955 example featuring the desirable first-year configuration: steel receiver with squared/blocky profile, 24\" barrel, straight-comb walnut stock, and \"Patent Pending\" barrel markings.
The Model 56 was introduced in 1955 and produced until 1964. Only the earliest rifles (roughly the first 1,000–2,000) received serialization before Marlin discontinued the practice on .22 rimfires for cost reasons.
Low serial numbers like M 2906 represent true first-year production prior to the shift to aluminum receivers, shorter barrels, and Monte Carlo stocks later in 1955/1956.

Excellent original condition with very light use. Beautiful walnut grain and finish with minimal handling marks. Strong, even bluing throughout. Clean internals and a pristine, bright bore with sharp, untouched Micro-Groove rifling. All factory features intact.
There is one small, shallow surface scratch on the top of the barrel just behind the hooded front sight ramp. This rifle appears to have been shot very little.

This rifle should be inspected by a licensed gunsmith prior to firing.
