Description: The 2K11 is Kimber’s answer to the high demand for a high quality multi-purpose double-stack 1911. Although such pistols are usually referred to as 2011s, that “moniker” or model name is a trademark of Staccato, hence Kimber’s “2K11” marketing name and why they are referred to in Kimber literature as a “high capacity 1911.” Like most 2011s today, the 2K11 is chambered in the popular 9mm rather than the classic .45 ACP. The Stainless Target version is oriented more toward competition use, though it can fulfill other roles in a pinch. This example is brand new. The 2K11 Stainless Target features a 5-inch fluted stainless steel barrel with a Coyote PVD finish. The barrel uses 5R rifling for enhanced accuracy and a longer barrel life compared to barrels with four or six grooves. By keeping the lands opposite of the grooves the projectile is not squeezed on opposite sides, ensuring the projectile retains is shaped instead of being squeezed into the grooves. This means the gun is more accurate due to consistent projectile shape and minimizes fouling, resulting in a barrel that cleans up more easily and less frequently. Like most manufactures of 9mm pistols, the twist rate used in the Kimber barrel is 1 in 10 inches. The stainless steel slide is protected from the elements by Kimber’s KimPro Granite finish and utilizes custom 2K11 front and rear serrations. The 2K11 utilizes a tool-less recoil system made of Kevlar carbon fiber for excellent reliability and easy maintenance. The slide has an optic cut, for which the cover plate also houses the rear sight. The 2K11 Stainless Target ships with a C&H adapter plate with an RMR footprint. Adapter plates for other optics are also available from C&H. The manual thumb safety is both ambidextrous and extended for easy operation. The grip safety has a beavertail for full grip protection. The frame is also equipped with a 1913-compatible rail for mounting a laser or flashlight. The bottom of the frame has a mag funnel installed for easier insertion of a magazine in a high-speed, high-adrenaline situation. The 2K11 Stainless Target sports an excellent GT match-grade aluminum trigger with a pull weight of 3 - 4 lbs. This new-in-box pistol comes with 3 stainless-steel magazines. Normally, this would consist of one 17-round and two 20-round magazines, all marked “Kimber” but actually manufactured by Checkmate (who also makes the 2011 magazines for Staccato and Springfield). There must have been a shortage of the Kimber-marked 20-round magazines at the time this pistol was shipped as it comes with one flush-fitting, Kimber-marked 17-round magazine, one flush-fitting, Checkmate-marked 19-round magazine, and one Kimber-marked 20-round magazine. On the positive side, the Checkmate 19-round gives you almost the same capacity as the 20-round but in a package the same size as the 17-round. Checkmate also makes extended 26-round magazines. Ultimately, the Kimber 2K11 Stainless Target is a superb pistol for competition use while retaining some self-defense situational capabilities.
