A 12-BORE HAMMER GUN BY H. HOLLAND, NO. 2254.
The frame is marked “H. HOLLAND” for Harris Holland. Harris ordered guns made to his specifications and retailed them under the name H. Holland from around 1846. His nephew Henry Holland joined him in 1876, when Holland & Holland became the company name. The individual makers of H. Holland guns have been lost to history but would have been trade makers in London and Birmingham. Rotary Under-lever Hammer shotgun with 28 1/2" damascus barrels and 2 1/2" chambers, lifter extractors and choked Mod & Imp Cyl. Border engraving on receiver and lever. Oil finished with checkered walnut stock and checkered butt. Bores are good with spots of older pitting. Mechanically fine. Stocks are excellent with a few impressions. Mfg 1872.
