Description:
Rigby Class C .470 Nitro Express double rifle. Made in London circa 1906, serial 16862 has 28-inch barrels (blade front sight, hand-matted rib, dovetailed rear sight assembly with one fixed and two folding express leafs marked 100/200/300, extractor, doll's-head extension). Features include an automatic safety and bushed strikers. NUMBERING: Serial 16862 appears on the action, lower tang, barrel flat and latch. Number 9598 appears on the lower rib forward of the flat, underside of the forend lever and underside of the opening lever. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 11.2 pounds. Length-of-pull is 14.25 inches, drops are 1.8 and 2.9 inches, and cast off is approximately .25-inch. CONDITION: Bores are surprisingly strong, with sharp rifling and but occasional hints of frosting. Barrels are on face and the opening lever rests just right of center. Mechanics are solid. Markings and engraving are sharp. Barrel finish is approximately 60 percent. Front sight bead is absent and the rear sight assembly screw does not properly tighten. Action has silvered. Forward edge of the tang safety is uneven (lock removed?). Forend is approximately 60 percent with small repaired chip (left rear). Butt is refinished with leather-wrapped pad added. No accuracy/regulation, build or history information is present. No case or accessories. The price is firm and layaway is available. $22,500 plus shipping.
