Fox Gun Co. was the last to introduce a single barrel trap gun to the market near the end of 1919. A very stoutly built gun with special attention to chamber, bore, and choke, they have a reputation of throwing outstanding patterns and breaking birds with the best of even modern-day guns. There were just 581 Fox SBT’s made in all grades. This J Grade, sn400336 built as a Philly gun in 1925, is in superb condition with factory metal finishes. The wood has been professionally restored to factory correct finish and the checkering has been recut to exacting standards. The factory barrel blue is strong with a few notable field marks in different areas- as shown in the photos. The 32”, full choked, vent rib barrel has a perfect mirror bore. The burst of scroll with borders near the breech end of the barrel is sharp and well executed. The receiver, top lever, forend iron, and escutcheon retain 95% factory case color, with fine scroll engraving and FOX in a banner on each side of the sturdy box lock receiver. The trigger guard has worn to a pleasant silver patina, with strong case color on the inside. The mechanics on this gun are excellent with a well-timed, strong ejector, crisp 3.5 lb trigger pull, Greener-style crossbolt action, and spring-loaded lever release on the left side of the frame. The screws are superb. The forend and straight stock have beautiful, grain lines that are fairly straight, with a light feathering of fiddleback crossing that grain throughout the entire piece of wood. The buttstock terminates in a period-correct Silvers pad. These guns were made to shoot and will literally compete with the finest trap gun produced, now or then. The choke taper is 3 ¾” long and produces extraordinary patterns. With such a low number made and an ever-increasing interest in A.H. Fox guns made in Philadelphia, these guns continue to gain value as you enjoy their use. See the specifications below. Thanks for looking!
