Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: RARE, LETTERED AUSTRALIAN COLONIAL POLICE S&W No. 3 in .44 RUSSIAN Antique 1 OF 30 6 ½” Single Action .44 S&W RUSSIAN w/HOLSTER Here Ancestry Guns presents a Rare, Factory Lettered Antique Australian Colonial Police Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver with Original Holster manufactured in 1881. The included factory letter confirms the barrel length, finish and grips when the revolver was shipped on December 14, 1881, to M.W. Robinson, New York City. The letter further states that shipment was ordered for the Australian government and was part of shipment containing 250 revolvers with 7” barrels and 30 revolvers with 6 ½” barrels like this one. The revolvers were delivered to Winchester for shipment to Australia. In 1877, S&W discontinued production of its other Model 3s, such as the American, Russian, and Schofield, in favor a new improved design called the “New Model” No. 3. This revolver is very interesting in that all frames for this model were made by 1898 (even though production was from 1878-1912) therefore allowing this model revolver as a whole to be classified as an antique. This new model has a longer cylinder allowing it to fire longer cartridges. Standard chambering was .44 Russian, although other calibers were offered on special order or in related models such as the .44-40 Frontier model, the .32-44 and .38-44 Target models, and the very rare .38-40 Winchester model. Smith & Wesson revolvers, then as now, are some of the finest in the world. Excellently machined, well-proportioned and accurate. It is no wonder why so many records of the era were set with this revolver. The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish with patina in the balance. Excellent action. Bright bore with strong rifling. Both grips are very fine. Markings are crisp. Numbers match. Included is an original brown leather flap holster which is stamped with a broad arrow on the inside of the flap. A fantastic rig made for the Frontier Down Under! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6-1/2 inches. Caliber: .44 Russian Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
