Description: Offered for sale is a highly attractive and well crafted plains style percussion rifle signed “Carl Shirley” on the barrel flat. This rifle features a 33” barrel and is stocked in beautifully figured tiger maple with strong, consistent striping throughout, giving the piece excellent visual presence. The rifle is configured in classic half stock form and is fitted with brass furniture, including an engraved patchbox, trigger guard, buttplate, and sideplate. The patchbox displays tasteful engraving and proper form, complementing the traditional styling of the rifle. The stock exhibits hand carved decorative elements with flowing lines, further enhancing its overall appeal. The percussion lock is cleanly fitted and mechanically sound, showing good alignment and proper function. The metal surfaces show light, honest aging consistent with careful use and handling, while the wood remains in very good condition with only minor handling marks. While the maker “Carl Shirley” is not widely documented among major 19th century gunmakers, the rifle represents a solid example of American muzzleloading craftsmanship in the traditional frontier style. Based on construction, finish, and overall presentation, this rifle is best categorized as a quality plains style percussion rifle with strong collector and shooter appeal. Key Features: • 33” barrel • Signed “Carl Shirley” on barrel flat • Highly figured tiger maple stock • Brass furniture throughout • Engraved patchbox • Traditional half-stock plains rifle configuration • Functional percussion lock This rifle presents very well and offers strong eye appeal due to the quality of the wood and overall execution. It would make an excellent addition to a collection of traditional muzzleloading arms or serve equally well as a display or range piece. We warrant that the firearms are as they appear in our photos but do not warrant mechanical condition or operation. Price: $1,399.00 |
