Description:
Scarce fluted-cylinder Colt model 1860 Army percussion revolver. Serial #4334 matching, including wedge, 1861 manufacture. The visible serial numbers are matching, including the wedge. .44 caliber bore is very good+, mechanics are tight. Colt's patent marking on frame. Cut for shoulder stock, 4-screw frame. One-line patent dates are present in a cylinder flute. Has a 8" barrel with Colt's one-line New York barrel address, thinning toward end. The metal overall is am aged grey patina. The brass triggerguard has some original traces of silver. Very good+ oiled grips. A super scarce example of a desirable and highly sought after fluted Colt Army, these are getting tough to come across. Colt manufactured about 4,000 revolvers of this model with a fluted cylinder found in the 1 to 8000 serial number range. Many of these early production model 1860 Army revolvers with fluted cylinders were shipped to the South prior to the outbreak of the Civil War, and many were issued to Confederate units for use during the conflict.
