This New Haven-made Model 70 is in excellent condition.  Both furniture and bluing are fine.  All the original sights are there, including the sight hood.  Comes in the highly desirable 270 Winchester caliber, making it a classic Model 70.

Overview
A 1976 Winchester Model 70 in .270 Win represents high reliability and solid accuracy. It is regarded as a dependable, "tack-driving" hunting rifle that balances a classic, well-finished wooden stock with an action often considered smooth.

Key Features and Performance (1970s Era):
  • Accuracy: Users often report that these rifles, especially when well-maintained, can achieve groups at or under 1 MOA, particularly with tailored, high-quality ammo.
  • Caliber (.270 Win): An exceptional all-around choice, well-suited for deer, pronghorn, and other big game, known for its flat trajectory.
  • Design & Comfort: These rifles generally feature quality, classic walnut wood stocks and possess a steady feel in the field.
  • Trigger: The 1976 model uses the pre-2008 adjustable trigger system, which is generally regarded as reliable and easy to maintain.
Considerations:
  • Weight: Some variations from this era can be somewhat heavy compared to modern synthetic rifles, which can make them steady for shooting but more taxing to carry, as seen in Reddit discussions.
  • Collectibility: While pre-1964 models are more sought after, 1970s models are still considered solid, desirable examples of Winchester’s long-standing, well-regarded, and reliable hunting rifle designs.
This is a used item. While we do not test-fire our used firearms, we perform an inspection and function check to ensure that they are fully functional to the best of our ability.
