"NSN. Dated 1863, chambered in .58 caliber,40"" round New Jersey-marked rifled barrel. The metal has aged to a smooth light grey patina with factory markings on the barrel and lock plate remaining sharp and clearly legible. The stock is very good, showing minimal handling impressions. The Model 1861 pattern muskets produced under Trenton contract represent state-level procurement for New Jersey during the Civil War, supplementing Federal issue arms. The buttplate and stock are marked with a carved “F," likely a period rack, unit, or personal identifier, adding to the rifle’s character. The action holds at both half and full cock, remaining mechanically functional. The musket is equipped with a “U.S." marked socket bayonet.
