Description:
Pair of extra fine (circa 1810) English pocket pistols by Smith. These guns may be by William Smith at No. 59 Princess Street in London but this is by no means certain. Many pieces of this quality were produced in Birmingham for the London retail market. "Fully intact" silver wire inlay, consisting of numerous five petal  flower heads, leaves and scrolls.......all terminating in deep cast silver lion head butt caps; both pieces have inscribed silver thumb-piece escutcheons that appear to be presentational; they read H.F. Bayeur....Onre....Cureurebire ? Owner? Possible combination of two sir names. Guns are in fine order, mechanically perfect, including sliding safeties. The barrels appear to be tight, no barrel wrench. Steel portions could easily be cleaned and brightened, subject to owner's preference. Both pieces carry Birmingham proof marks. A fine pair of early 1st quarter English pistols. (6 1/4" overall length)
