Description: With its huge population the Indian territory of the British Empire would need a lot of ordniance resources to police and defend - so in the early 1900's a official Royal Ordinance Factory was established at Ishapore long with a few munitions factories at strategic materials locations. This factory was initially set up to produce the Lee Enfield "SHTLE No1 mk3" model and did so with support, scrutiny and a final approval pass of designated Enfield and Crown inspectors to maintain processes and quality. During WW1 the British Ordinance factorys were ordered to simply manufacturing efforts and produce the No1mk3* model - Ishapore was not entirely - retooling there would be too much of a project for the windage rear sight and magazine cut-off elimination! So they made the same model with the same features all the way to WW2. In this way a collector can obtain a good quality Indian made example and one with the desirable early No1mk3 features - single round magazine cut-off, windage rear sight. With very clear 1939 Ishapore model and manufacture cypher on the Right Wrist and Indian Army Property (ISA mark) and British Commonwealth Butt Disk. Here is a chance to own a great example of ROF Ishapore production from 1939! Numbers matching in 5 places - Receiver, Bolt, Nose Cap, Front Wood and Rear Sight. The magazine has another serial applied, but works in the rifle - its been there for some time. The wood furniture is a nice mid brown Indian source and installed mathcin set - with some dings and dents from use and storage, but not to the level of a typical Indian service device. The lower wood shows what could be deep carved grooves in front of the magazine. The butt stock is stamped with the ISA cartouch for Indian Army Property and it retains it pre 1922 brass stock disk with a genuine RA marked example installed (Royal Artillary) - further researchable (not done yet). The bore is bright and clean with deep sharp grooves - so far unfired / untested. All components and screws are of the correct type for its manufacturing year and are in place - including a stacking swivel. The bolt is clean and intact with a small amount of overturn on the bolt head as it should be. Firearms should be inspected by a competant gunsmith for the type as part of the inspection period.
