New items added daily! Description: This is an exceptional WWII U.S.M.C. issue J. Unertl 8x Sniper Scope, serial number 2519. Developed by John Unertl and contracted by the Marine Corps in 1941, these early-war optics were originally paired with specially modified Springfield M1903 National Match rifles during the initial Pacific island campaigns. They proved highly effective and remained in USMC inventory through the Korean War, later seeing action in Vietnam mounted on match-conditioned Winchester Model 70s. With a total production estimated at only 2,500-2,600 units, genuine USMC marked Unertls are incredibly scarce and desired by collectors. This features deep, crisp roll marks reading "J. UNERTL / USMC - SNIPER / 2519", with the correct white-filled "8" prominently stamped on the rear ring to denote its 8-power magnification. The external condition is excellent, with nearly all bluing intact, showing a few scattered handling marks, minor surface scuffs, and very light edge wear on the adjustment rings of the scope body, both consistent with light field use. The optics remain remarkably clear and bright with a sharply defined fine crosshair reticle and no fogging. The scope is correctly fitted with its proper brass micrometer target mounts, with a beautiful golden finish and just a bit of darkening into a light patina in a few areas. Elevating this lot is the inclusion of its original WWII issue second-variation scope can. Made from a fiber-board Micarta material, the can features a domed twist-on cap, original green painted finish, and its heavy canvas webbing strap. The case is in excellent condition, with the only real flaw being a small crack on the domed cap, which does not effect cap functionality and is shown in photos. The screw-in scope covers are both working perfectly, and are in great condition, with both covers showing very mild surface oxidation. For factors such as historical significance, optical clarity, hardware inclusions, and condition, this iconic piece of military history is nearly impossible to upgrade.
