VERY FINE SAVAGE 1899A EARLY TAKEDOWN, .303 SAVAGE CALIBER, #73XXX, MADE 1908. This is one of the first takedown rifles from Savage as this feature wasn’t offered until 1907. Overall excellent condition with bright deep high polish blue on the receiver that shows only some very minor thinning on the bottom, receiver ring and high edges. Fine deep barrel blue. Rear sight has a dovetail filler blank and very unusual small round globe front sight paired with a correct Marble tang sight. Stock and forearm are excellent without any of the usual cracks around the upper tang. Desirable fish-belly crescent butt. Good case color inside the protected portions of the lever around the trigger. Tight action, tight takedown and excellent bore. Fortunately, .303 Savage brass is once again readily available. This a truly excellent 119 year old early takedown Model 1899. $1595.
