Description:
The Ross Mark II Rifle was a Canadian, straight-pull bolt-action rifle produced from 1905 to 1912 as an improvement over the Mark 1. It featured a stronger receiver, a new bolt with an angled cut for better primary extraction, and updated safety and bolt stop. While initially highly successful for target shooting, the rifle ultimately faced issues with tight chamber tolerances, especially with non-Canadian ammunition, which led to extraction problems on the battlefield. By 1916, the rifle had been withdrawn from front line service but continued to be used by many snipers of the Canadian Expeditionary Force until the end of the war due to its exceptional accuracy." During this time,  the U.S. government purchased about 10,000 to use as training rifles for their military,

      Design and features
  • Strengthened design: The Mark 2 had a thicker receiver, a reinforced trigger attachment, and a shortened rear tang for added strength.
  • Improved primary extraction: To address the difficulty of opening the bolt after firing, an angled cut was added to the bolt lugs, and cam tracks were added to the bolt to assist with primary extraction.
  • Updated components: The bolt stop and safety were enlarged and strengthened to improve reliability.
  • Loading and feeding: The rifle incorporated the Harris control platform for loading and included a magazine feed-off.
  • Sights: The Mark 2 had a blade front sight with a hood and an adjustable rear sight, which evolved through several variations over its production run.
Now this exceptional "High-Grade" piece, is Mueseum quality and belonged to Captain L.G. VanTuyl of the Canadian / Quebec military of the late 1800s and early 1900s. As documented by/with the  Captain's
original Ross Rifle Record books from that period as well as his own "Handwritten" shot book. If that were not enough, his 'original' 303 bandoleer is also included!
Gentlemen given the nature / historical use of this piece,  price is firm on this rifle.
