PRIME CUSTER RANGE U.S. ARTILLERY COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH KOPEC LETTER – SERIAL NO. 5333
Available for sale is an exceptional and highly collectible Colt U.S. Artillery Model Single Action Army revolver falling within the famous “Custer Range” serial block associated with revolvers issued to the U.S. 7th Cavalry prior to the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Serial number 5333 falls within the highly desirable Lot 5 range (4507–5504), a group long studied and documented by noted Colt authority John A. Kopec. Included with the revolver is a signed Kopec authentication letter confirming the revolver’s authenticity and discussing its placement within this historically important serial range.
Originally manufactured in early 1874 as part of the first U.S. military contract, this revolver was later arsenal refurbished into Artillery configuration during the 1890s, as was common with surviving cavalry revolvers. The revolver retains the desirable “U.S.” martial marking on the frame and exhibits the classic mixed-number characteristics expected of authentic Artillery Models.

Condition is very good overall and highly attractive for a genuine Indian Wars-period martial Colt. Barrel, cylinder, and straps have aged to an attractive gray patina while the frame retains substantial arsenal reapplied blue. Bore is well defined and mechanics remain excellent.
The revolver displays exactly the kind of honest wear and untouched character advanced Colt collectors seek.
This is not a modern restoration or fantasy piece — it is a legitimate and documented U.S. martial Colt with direct connection to one of the most famous serial ranges in American firearms collecting. Collector and investment quality.
