Pre-CMP Sold Specimen Offered here for sale and just acquired from a very prestigious arms collection is this beautiful NEAR MINT Remington 1903A3 .3-06 rifle. Serial number 3743336 . A Near Mint and in condition as when it was obtained through the program. The specimen the barrel is stamped 5-43. The stock is cartouched with "RA" and "FJA" inspector marks. Purchased from the U.S. Government in 1961 through a National Rifle Association advertisement.  It comes with all documentation from the government. Serial number 3,743,336 places receiver production in approximately June 1943. The barrel marking RA 5-43 denotes a Remington Arms barrel manufactured May 1943. All original matching 1943 barrel and a 1943 receiver is exactly what WWII collectors want to see on an original rifle — the dates “match” correctly for factory assembly. The stock cartouches of RA = Remington Arms and FJA = Colonel Frank J. Atwood, the military inspector overseeing Remington production are correct wartime inspection marks for an original Remington stock. The fact that the rifle was purchased directly from the U.S. Government through an NRA/DCM program in 1961, and with the original paperwork/documentation, especially this early adds significant collector appeal and provenance. Those rifles were commonly sold through the old Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) program for around $15–25 back then. That original paperwork verifies this and substantially increases desirability today. Particulars: original parkerized finish, mostly “R” marked Remington parts, no import marks, no rebuild arsenal stamps, an virtually untouched stock finish, an exceptional bore, no drill-rifle weld repairs. A true “near mint” original Remington 1903A3 is becoming harder to find because many were rebuilt, refinished, or sporterized after the war. Original DCM/NRA sales papers, shipping receipts, and government correspondence are all included giving this unmistakeable provenance. The rifle has only assorted light storage marks but is in condition as it was when acquired through the program.
