Smith 12 GA Field Grade SXS Shotgun c.1913-1915 Offered here for sale and just acquired from a very prestigious 6 decades arms collection is this beautiful L.C. Smith Field Grade 12 Gauge Side-by-Side shotgun. A true “Field Grade” it was introduced in 1912–1913. This gun is marked “Field” and has a relatively low serial number (55,640), indicationing it was almost certainly made very early in the Field Grade production run — approximately 1913 to 1915. A few particulars about this specimen: 12 gauge 28" barrels Solid rib Double triggers Full / Improved Cylinder Field Grade Near mint condition Condition of this specimen is paramount. It appears to be virtually unused with just some slight “rings” within the chambers. The original case colors still sharp and vibrant.  Original bluing is 100%. Sharp screws, tight matching serials on barrels and frame. Wood unmarred. Just a few light scratches left rear barrel in front of chamber. On the underside of receiver there are a couple of very light and tiny dents which “when amplified” appear perhaps to be manufacturing blemishes before case hardening. In normal light barely noticeable. A solid-rib early Field Grade in exceptional untouched condition - especially for a specimen which is OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD which should have a special appeal to dedicated L.C. Smith collectors.
