The BYF P38 (often stamped byf) refers to a World War II-era Walther P38 manufactured by the Mauser factory in Oberndorf, Germany. The "byf" mark was a secret manufacturer code adopted in 1942 when Mauser transitioned from producing the Luger P08 to the P38 to meet rising military demand. These pistols typically feature a 5" barrel (officially 4.9 inches or 125mm) and are historically significant for introducing the double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger system to service sidearms. Uses a hinged locking block system that keeps the barrel and slide locked together during high-pressure firing, which became a foundational design for modern pistols like the Beretta 92FS. None
