"Serial number 47376. Made in 1900. 45 LC caliber with a 6" barrel. This is a fine example of a Colt Alaskan model with 80% of the original blue. It has all of the proper Military inspections marks and the 1902 marking on the right hand side of the frame. These guns were used during the Spanish American war. There are numerous theories why the trigger guards on the 1902s were so much bigger than the 1878s. The popular theory that has all been debunked was to accommodate a gloved hand. Most of these were hade for the Philippine constabulary though and one of the more credible theories tossed around was this was for a two finger trigger pull due to the belief the Philippinos could not pull the trigger with one finger.
