Offered for sale is a classic Colt Detective Special revolver chambered in .38 Special, featuring the desirable 2-inch barrel configuration. The Detective Special is one of the most historically significant compact revolvers ever produced and helped define the modern snub nosed defensive revolver.
First introduced by Colt in 1927, the Detective Special was revolutionary for its time, offering six rounds of .38 Special in a compact concealable platform. While many competing revolvers carried only five rounds, the Detective Special provided an additional cartridge without sacrificing concealability. This design quickly became a favorite among detectives, plain-clothes officers, and private citizens.
Colt’s traditional double-action revolvers are widely respected for their smooth trigger pulls, refined internal lockwork, and classic craftsmanship, making them highly sought after by collectors today.
This revolver features a blued carbon steel finish paired with attractive rosewood finger-groove grips, giving the revolver both excellent handling characteristics and strong visual appeal.
Condition is excellent, with strong original bluing and only minor signs of careful handling. The revolver shows crisp edges and a bright cylinder, indicating limited use and good overall preservation.
