The accompanying letter states this rifle was originally in musket configuration when received in the warehouse on August 19, 1878, remained at the factory and was converted to rifle configuration with an octagon barrel in .45-60 caliber and plain trigger (July 26, 1882), and shipped as a rifle on July 27, 1882. It has a second model receiver with dust cover guide rail attached by two screws, dovetail blade and elevation adjustable sights, caliber markings on the barrel and cartridge elevator and straight grip stock with trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included), "AJ" nicely carved on the right side and "7000" stamped on left side of wrist. Very good plus retaining 25% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There are four "kill" notches on the barrel at the breech.
