Description: Austrian Officers Flintlock Rifle, .71 Caliber — Rare 18th Century Military Arm Three-Band Officers Rifle, Circa 1730s — Fine Multi-Groove Rifling — Rococo Engraving with Turkish Prisoner Motif Description Here is a genuinely unusual and historically significant Austrian officers flintlock rifle dating to the 1730s — a remarkably early example of a purpose-built rifled military longarm. The rifle incorporates an older barrel that was reused in its construction, a telling detail that speaks to the era's resourcefulness and the high value placed on quality rifled barrels. With fine Rococo engraving, working flintlock action, and a monogram on the buttstock, this is a compelling piece for the serious antique arms collector. Action & Metalwork Flintlock action in full working order. The lock interior bears an unidentified maker's mark. The metalwork features fine Rococo rocaille scroll engraving and a war trophy motif including a Turkish prisoner — a decorative scheme consistent with Austrian military taste of the early 18th century and the period's Ottoman conflicts. Barrel 42?" barrel with fine multi-groove rifling, .71 caliber. Bore shows rust and honest patina consistent with age; uncleaned and unpolished, preserving original surface character. The barrel is identified as an earlier-production piece reused in this rifle's assembly. Stock Walnut stock with monogram on the buttstock. Some old repair present, consistent with a working military arm of this age. Three-band configuration. Specifications
A genuinely old arm showing honest age throughout — bore with rust and patina (uncleaned), old stock repair, and expected wear. The flintlock functions correctly. The engraving is detailed and well-preserved. For a firearm approaching 300 years old, the overall presentation is impressive, and the combination of fine rifling, quality engraving, and historical provenance makes this an exceptional collectors' piece.
