These were made for the Imperial German Army and were used in the bitter fighting of trench warfare of the Great War. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. His design would be especially successful throughout World War I & World War II. These pistols had and still have a reputation of being of utter quality and quite expensive to produce. This classic luger pistol has “crown/gothic letter” and “crown/RC” proofs on multiple parts, “L.J.R.122.M.G.11.K.15” on the frontstrap, and checkered grips. Included with the lot are a post-WWI holster and extra magazine. The markings are attributed to the 11th Machine Gun Company of the 122nd Landwehr Infantry Regiment (Wurttemberg), a component of the 54th Landwehr Brigade, 2nd Landwehr Division, which was engaged at the Battle of Verdun and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. German military proof and acceptance marks are located throughout. The overall condition is good. Some original finish and some signs of refinish. The action is excellent. The bore is reflective with a bit of frosting and strong rifling. Grips show use and remain solid. Inspection markings throughout. The magazine is a later replacement. The right grips an old replacement with a fascinator under the grip screw to hold it on. The left grip matches the rest of the gun. The holster has been repaired. Comes with 2 magazines.
