Rock River Arms LAR-458 – 458 SOCOM – 16" Bull Barrel – Magpul Stock
This Rock River Arms LAR-458 comes to us as a consignment sale and features the very interesting 458 SOCOM cartridge. Developed to address complaints from the Special Operations community regarding the lack of stopping power of the 5.56 NATO cartridge, 458 SOCOM was designed to run on the AR15/M-4 platform. Just swap out the upper receiver and you have a 300 grain round that’s still traveling around 1950 fps. In other words, it’s a highly compatible round that solves a lot of problems that you might face.
Our rifle (serial #: 1001850) has a 16 inch bull barrel with a 1:14 twist and capped off with an A2 flash hider. The knurled and fluted aluminum handguard gives you plenty of grip on the rifle. A front rail covers the gas block and provides a solid mounting location for a front iron sight. The dust cover, shell deflector and forward assist are common to the AR platform.
The stock is a Magpul multi-position version with a storage compartment in the side of the buttstock.
This is likely the model with the two-stage match trigger as the trigger pull is nice and light. Much nicer than a standard MilSpec trigger.
The rifle has a good bore, bright barrel and good rifling. The metal finish rates Good – Very Good with some wear from use and handling.
Overall this rifle is a good choice for those wanting to take advantage of the ballistics of the 458 SOCOM round. Priced to sell and ready to run!
