The Springfield Armory Professional Model (originally known as the "Bureau Model") is a hand-built, match-grade 1911 specifically designed for the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and regional SWAT teams. Introduced in 1998, it won a grueling contract competition by meeting stringent requirements for reliability and accuracy that other top custom shops failed to meet.
Key Performance Standards
To win the contract, the pistol had to pass an intensive testing phase that included: [1]
- Accuracy: An average of 1.5" groups at 25 yards for three consecutive 10-shot groups from a Ransom Rest.
- Endurance: Unassailable reliability through a 20,000-round endurance test.

Each Professional model is hand-fitted by the Springfield Armory Custom Shop to ensure "zero-tolerance" performance.
