Description: David Miller Co. "Marksmen" in .300 Win Mag Very Fine Condition | Certified Safari-Ready™ | Sub-MOA Accuracy David Miller Co. rifles are widely regarded among the finest American custom sporting rifles ever produced, with rifles built by David Miller and Curt Crum having taken game throughout the world and long respected among serious hunters and collectors alike. Miller rifles achieved international prominence during the 1980s through a series of record-setting custom rifle sales and became closely associated with prominent outdoor writers and hunters including Jim Carmichael, Craig Boddington, and Tom Turpin. This example, serial number DM-G41, was built on a Winchester Model 70 action supplied to David Miller while still “in the white” during Winchester’s Model 70 redevelopment era. The rifle features a 26-inch barrel and measures 13.5” length of pull, weighing approximately 9.6 pounds with scope installed. The rifle features a beautifully shaped custom walnut stock with ebony forend tip, shadowline cheekpiece, and classic Miller styling throughout, reflecting the restrained elegance that defines the finest American custom sporting rifles. Metalwork is equally refined, with the rifle exhibiting the clean lines, proportion, and understated sophistication for which David Miller rifles are known. The rifle is fitted with Miller’s proprietary ultra-low scope mounting system carrying a Leupold Vari-X III optic, a signature feature of Miller sporting rifles that allows the scope to sit exceptionally low over the bore. Importantly, this rifle recently underwent a comprehensive professional restoration by Evan Koch, a highly skilled custom stockmaker whose work has included projects for Parkwest Arms and who was recommended specifically for this project by master riflemaker D’Arcy Echols. The restoration was carefully executed with close attention to preserving the rifle’s original David Miller character and proportions rather than over-restoring or modernizing the rifle. The work included: • Complete professional stock refinish • Full hand-cut 24 LPI checkering • Metal refinishing and reblue work • Restoration guided by documented David Miller examples and period reference material, including Custom Rifles: Mastery of Wood & Metal – David Miller Co. by Tom Turpin Particularly noteworthy is the fully hand-cut 24 LPI checkering, executed in a classic David Miller pattern illustrated in Custom Rifles: Mastery of Wood & Metal and consistent with the style seen on other top-tier American custom sporting rifles of the era. Interestingly, the rifle was originally built without checkering, an uncommon feature for a David Miller sporting rifle, making the careful execution and historically correct pattern selection especially important. The result is a rifle that remains faithful to the original Miller aesthetic while presenting in exceptional overall condition. In addition to its exceptional craftsmanship and recent restoration, the rifle has demonstrated outstanding practical accuracy, shooting Hornady Precision Hunter 212 gr ELD-X factory ammunition at sub-MOA levels. The .300 Win Mag remains one of the great all-around sporting cartridges, combining flat trajectory, excellent bullet selection, and ample authority for western big game, mountain hunting, and African plains game.
