Description:
NSN, .58 caliber, 33" barrel with a good bore that has mild-moderate pitting along its length. This well-made percussion rifle has about 60-70% of the original blue remaining on the barrel, with plum-brown freckling present along the entire length, heaviest at the breech which has moderate pitting around the bolster as well. The 1863-dated lock has a mottled gray and dark brown patina, with some further mild pitting on the head of the hammer, while the trigger retains much of the original bright fire blue on the sides. The lock and breech markings are still crisp and clear. The brass fixtures are in very good shape and have a fairly bright pale yellow-ochre patina with scattered small marks and blemishes. The walnut stock has only some small handling marks and surface bruises scattered about the otherwise excellent oil finish. The cartouches are crisp and clear on the left side of the stock and a mottled gray and plum-brown iron ramrod is included. The patchbox still contains a spare nipple. This is a good-very good example of an original Remington "Zouave Rifle" overall. Antique;
