Offered here is a beautifully refreshed Heym SR20 chambered in the classic 7x57 Mauser—one of the most elegant and effective sporting cartridges ever developed.
Built by Heym of Germany, the SR20 is a refined European bolt-action sporting rifle known for excellent machining, smooth operation, and practical field handling. This example combines traditional German rifle quality with the timeless appeal of the 7x57 cartridge, making it an ideal rifle for deer, antelope, mountain hunting, woodland stalking, and African plains game.
The rifle features a 24-inch blued barrel without open sights, classic sporter stock profile, and scope bases with rings included. The rifle measures 13 5/8 inches length of pull and weighs approximately 8.25 pounds with rings installed, giving it steady but still lively field handling.
The stock was recently refreshed by Evan Koch, a highly skilled custom stockmaker whose work includes checkering and stockmaking for Parkwest Arms and other high-end custom rifle makers. Koch was recommended specifically by master gunmaker D’Arcy Echols. The work included a careful stock refinish, recutting of the checkering, and installation of a new recoil pad. The result is a crisp, clean rifle with near-new wood presentation while retaining its original Heym character.
The 7x57 Mauser remains one of the great classic hunting cartridges, admired for mild recoil, excellent sectional density, deep penetration, and real-world field effectiveness far beyond what its modest paper ballistics suggest. It is particularly well suited to a refined sporting rifle such as this Heym SR20, offering an excellent combination of shootability, accuracy potential, and traditional sporting character.
A new Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 is available separately at additional cost and would pair exceptionally well with this rifle’s classic all-around hunting configuration.
Condition is very fine overall. The metal shows very light to essentially no handling evidence, and the professionally refreshed wood presents in near-new condition with crisp recut checkering and a new recoil pad. Mechanically excellent with a bright bore and sharp rifling.
