Description: Antique and very early second year MFG Colt 1851 Navy “Gold Rush” era with original “slim Jim” holster.. This 1851 Navy S/N is 7245.. The first year S/N range is 1 through 2499 and they were actually made in 1850 and have the square back trigger guards... The second year range was 2500 to 9999 so this gun was made in 1851.. All S/N are matching throughout including the wedge and the arbor pin. The grips are numbered in the back strap channel as well. All markings are clear. The mechanics are excellent and the gun locks up tight as a new gun.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the wedge. The cylinder still has some cylinder scene.. Not much and it is light. but I would say maybe about 40%.. {see photos}. This is remarkable for an early 1851 as most all you will find this early have no scene and sometimes no S/N either. Still has the very small COLTS PATENT. on the left side of the frame. Perfect barrel address and S/N's. Very nice strong bore and clean chambers. The grips are excellent as well with no cracks or chips and still retains some original varnish. About 50% on the left and only about 10% on the right. The cylinder nipples are in good shape and not smashed or broken and portions of all 6 cylinder safety pins are remaining. The only down side of this gun is the screw holes on the frame looked to be slightly dished so it was probably polished at one time in it's life.. The finish is brown color that is uniform throughout so not sure if it is patina or something out of a bottle??? It does not have that acid smell to it like a chemical solution does so not sure.. Either way, this is a very early 1851 that has not been worked over and filed on with numerous replaced parts and repairs like so many have been over the years and is a very nice, smooth and honest gun. Much better than what you would normally find out there these days. The holster is a very early “Slim Jim” style with sewn in toe plug.. This holster will only take an early small trigger guard 51 Navy. It will NOT take a later 4th model large trigger guard gun. Not enough room in the trigger guard area for later guns. Dates perfectly with the age of the gun. Early 1850”s to the late 1850's. It is in excellent condition with all original tight stitching. Solid sewn and riveted belt loop on the back. NO rips or tears. NO crazing, splits or cracking. Solid sewn in toe plug. This holster fits this gun like a glove and is “form fit” made for a very tight fit for an early small guard 51 Navy. This is a very nice gun and holster set and both are in much better condition that you will find. I collect antique gun leather and I have quite a few pieces and this is one of the better “Slim Jim's” I have ever owned. I think I have a belt that fits this holster also ??
