St. Louis 12 gauge double barrel shotgun with 20-inch barrels and bold Wells Fargo & Co’s Express markings. The barrel rib is marked “WELLS FARGO & CO’S EXPRESS – SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.” The receiver is also engraved and marked “Wells Fargo & Co’s Express – San Francisco, Cal.” The shotgun is additionally stamped “18”in several locations, including the barrel/rib area, receiver area, and underside. This shotgun has a fantastic Old West appearance with strong visual appeal. The receiver has decorative scroll engraving, the wood has an aged look with normal handling marks, and the metal has a pleasing dark patina. It presents extremely well and would make a great display piece for a Western, Wells Fargo, frontier, or antique firearms collection. The shotgun functions mechanically as it should. The bores are fair/okay and do show pitting. Because of the age, short barrels, and bore condition, this is being sold strictly as a collector/display piece only and not recommended for firing.
