#901, CPA (Carolyn Paul Associates), A Replicate Stevens 44 1/2 Single Shot Rifle, It was made in Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Now they operate as Legacy Gun Works in Mount Perry, Ohio. It was finished in 2004, It is marked as a Paul Shuttleworth gun on all 3 Barrels, It is a Silhouette Model, It has 3 Original set of barrels, One is a Badger Barrel .45-90 that is part round & part octagon at 30", Another is a Green Mountain Barrel .40-65 Win. that is full octagon at 30", Another is a Badger Barrel 22 Long Rifle that is part round & octagon at 26", Provided with a breech block for both centerfire and rimfire, It has a Montana Vintage Arms 6x Series 3000 with a 4 minute aperture reticle at 28" long, This scope fits on the bases on the 2 centerfire barrels, The blocks on the 22LR barrel are set-up for a Unertl length scope, The tang sight is a Baldwin Mid-Range sight, All 3 of the barrels have Baldwin spirit level globe front sights, Schuetzen double set triggers, The Lever is their Ball & Spur style, Each barrel has it's own forend with a Schnabel, Very nice Black Walnut Extra Fancy stock that was part of the original order, 14 3/8" LOP over a Niedner checkered steel buttplate. It weights 12 lbs. 2 oz. with the 22LR barrel, 11 lbs. 10 oz. with the .40-65 barrel without the scope and 13 lbs. 1 oz. with the scope, 11 lbs. 9 oz. with the .45-90 barrel without the scope and 13 lbs. with the scope. The blue on all 3 barrels is 99-100%, the case colors is 100%, the stock finish is 98% with a few very light handling marks, the checkering all around is 100% and all the bores remain as new. This is a Paul Shuttleworth gun and marked as such.
The CPA Sporting and varmint rifles are reproductions of the Stevens 44 1/2 in classic sporting style. The frame, lower tang and lever are case colored in the original ripple style Stevens colors. The top tang is tapped 5-40 for original or reproduction sights designed for Stevens rifles. All working parts are hardened for strength and wear resistance, so this action has a very long-life expectancy. In every part used, the material and heat treatment is superior to the original. Paul Shuttleworth started CPA in 1988 in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania and passed away in 2022. His daughter Gail then ran the business and later sold it to Legacy Gun Works in Mount Perry, Ohio. They, to this day continue to build the replicate Stevens 44 1/2 as Mr. Shuttleworth would have wanted it done.
