From the home of The Ruger Collectors Association (RCA) right here at our retail shop and gallery in Southport, CT is this rare limited edition Ruger Old Army .44 percussion revolver commissioned by the RCA to commemorate the 200th Year of American Independence Bicentennial in 1976.
The Ruger Old Army is one of the scarcer and more desirable factory commemorative variations of the famous Ruger Old Army black powder revolver line. This revolver, serial number 145-01409, was one of the special Ruger Collectors Association (RCA) “One of 200” stainless Bicentennial editions produced in 1976 during America’s Bicentennial celebration.
The Ruger Old Army itself was introduced in 1972 and remained in production until 2008. Unlike Colt or Remington reproductions, the Old Army was an entirely modern design built on the strength of Ruger’s Blackhawk frame. It earned a reputation as perhaps the strongest and most durable percussion revolver ever made. Collectors and shooters alike consider it the pinnacle of cap-and-ball revolvers.
This is especially collectible because it combines several desirable features:
- Stainless steel construction
- 7½-inch barrel
- “Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty” Bicentennial marking
- Interwoven “RCA” logo on the top strap
- Factory-marked “One of 200”
- Early production “145-” serial prefix
- Original box, manual, and nipple wrench
- Unfired condition
The revolver has only a few storage marks and retains its stainless striking beauty.
