Description:
Antique F.D. BLISS Pocket Model SELF DEFENSE .25 RF Single Action REVOLVER

CIVIL WAR/WILD WEST Pocket Carry HIDEOUT Revolver

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique F.D. Bliss Spur Trigger Pocket Revolver, manufactured circa 1863-64 in New Haven, Connecticut. F.D. Bliss and Alfred D. Goodyear worked out of New Haven between the years 1856-1863 before Bliss went out on his own in 1863. This Bliss single action 6-shot handgun is chambered in .25 caliber with less than 3000 examples made. These pocket-sized revolvers and many like them were made by various companies such that the price easily undercut better known and established companies. During a time when many, if not most people carried a firearm, these affordable little revolvers were small enough to conceal and carry yet provide some level of protection or peace of mind, even when the town did not allow firearms within its limits.

There were quite literally dozens of companies making these from the late 1860s and 1870s through the end of the 19th century, curiously being “trade named” all sorts of things, for example: Defender, Blue Jacket, Red Jacket, Electric, Smoker and many more! They are typically rimfire and have the spur trigger, much like their progenitor the S&W No. 1 Revolver. Though this doesn’t have the name recognition of Colt, Smith & Wesson, and Remington, they still represent a period in American history and present an opportunity for collectors with relatively minimal investment.

The overall condition is good. The action functions, but the cylinder does not lock up, and the arbor pin easily slides out with only gravity. The arbor pin is a replacement. Very good bore for its age with a nice shimmer. Both grips are very good. Markings are legible. Numbers on the barrel and cylinder do not match.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .25 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
