It features a 32-inch barrel and retains the characteristic hinged breechblock design associated with the Springfield Armory rifles of the late nineteenth century. The rifle has a blued finish and is fitted with an adjustable rear sight. A smooth, straight-grip wooden stock is fitted, and the buttplate is metal and marked “U.S.” consistent with government-issue components from the period. This Model 1873 is used and shows evidence of a prior wrist repair on the stock. The action remains mechanically complete with the trapdoor breechblock and hammer assembly intact. The bore is described as having strong rifling and visible shine. Serial number 27057 is present on the receiver, placing production within the early range of Model 1873 manufacture. Included with the rifle is a U.S.-marked 18-inch spike bayonet accompanied by an NGP medallion scabbard. These accessories correspond to the standard accoutrements issued with the Springfield rifles of this era. The bayonet mounts to the barrel in the traditional socket configuration. No additional accessories or packaging are noted beyond the bayonet and scabbard. Overall, this antique Springfield Model 1873 represents a complete historical firearm with its associated period-correct bayonet assembly.
