The Savage Model 1899 Takedown is a historic, hammerless lever-action rifle designed by Arthur Savage that allows the barrel and fore-end to be detached from the receiver without any tools for compact storage and transportation. Originally manufactured by the Savage Arms Company in Utica, New York, this innovative firearm stood out from contemporary Winchester or Marlin options due to its advanced internal rotary magazine. This unique mechanism allowed it to safely fire modern, aerodynamically efficient spitzer (pointed) bullets that would otherwise risk detonating in a traditional tubular magazine
